Why is Hispanic not considered a race on the Census – actually Latino would be the race bit that is not a?
choice- I thought the census was to count people- all the PC politicians are showing that they are actually racist by even making it an issue. Lets just count people since that is what we all are! Where says race I agree, this all put in Nascar or Human.

Got something to say?
Because it isn’t. If they were to add mestizo on to the list then they’d also have to add creole among other categories so theyre making people choose between white, black and anything else.
HISPANIC IS OR LATINOS IS LIKE THEY COME FROM LATIN AMERIC
A
IT CANT BE A RACE
OR A CULTURE
BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE THAN 20 COUNTIRES IN LATIN AMERICA
DIFFERENTE LOOKS,DIFFERETE LENAUGES DIFFERETE CULTURE
MOST SPEAK SPANISH BUT WAY DIFFERENTE
It’s not a race. I can say this because I am from Peru, I’m seen as ‘hispanic’ here. Did you know even know what that label means? How did it come about? People in Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Dominican Republic, etc do not use that word. They use actual RACE classifications like white, black, mestizo, mulatto. Hispanic is not a race. The entire western hemisphere was occupied by native americans (north and south) until Europeans came and colonized it. In Mexico and in much of latin america, Spaniards (western Europeans) came to colonize. They brutalized many of the indigenous people, forced them to convert to christianity, and taught them to speak Spanish. That is why many in latin america speak spanish.
How is a mulatto (black/white) Dominican the same racially as an indigenous Mexican like George Lopez? They’re not. Just like there are also white “hispanics”, the brown ones that many see are either indigenous or mestizos who are a mixture of the Spanish and indigenous people.
It’s not about PC, actually the “latino” label (which only came about in the 80s) is PC. It’s a way for people to stop using real race labels and simply focus on language.
Just look at this Cuban singer who is black

All of them are classified as ‘hispanics’ simply because they speak spanish. The Nixon administration decided to use these labels to make it easier for the U.S. to count these mixed race people with different backgrounds into one category. America likes to simply mixed race people. We are not a race and it’s about time somebody did something to show the truth.
And you are being sort of PC with you’re “let’s put human or nascar as race”. The census forms are being accurate (partly) and for the first time actually.
Hispanic isn’t considered a race at all. It is an ethnicity.
Is Jewish a race?
It is not merely a religious distinction according to the ADL, JDL, and the like, but is an ethnicity.
Clearly this is so as a Jew may be an atheist but still yet considered a Jew.
Hispanics similarly are not a racial distinction but based on language and cultural commonalities.
Hispanics may be Afro-carribean, mestizo, amerindian, and so on.
Rev you need to see my tongue in cheek Blog about the census. It scares me anyway and I ain’t gonna give up any info.
Hispanic and Latino are not races, they’re Ethnicities based on Language.
And I 100% agree with Cynical…Hispanic is an invalid way of describing such a diverse people as we. We wouldn’t class Americans, British, Nigerians and Indians as all the same simply because we happen to all speak English as an official language, would we? So why would we group together a Mulatto Dominican with a Mestizo Ecuadorian, a White Argentine, and an Indigenous Bolivian who may or may not even speak Spanish at all? We don’t look the same, we don’t talk the same, we don’t act the same and we don’t share the same culture…in fact the only thing we have in common is that we were all f*cked over by spain and ended up speaking somewhat the same language ( I still can’t decipher what Peruvians, Colombians and Central Americans are saying…and they have trouble understanding me)
Maybe you should all read his question again…
The questioner forces you to name your race but there is not option but there are no options for any mixed “latino” decent. Must of us here are no longer pure Cuban, Mexican, etc. So my kids, who are half Puerto rican and Mexcan are of the white race now?
If your African American, do they make you name the country in Africa your family was from? no
And the person who said there are no ” Hispanics” (hate that word) in Peru, is there something wrong with you? Latino and Hispanic are terms used for “Americans” of Latino Decent. Of course there are no Latino’s in Peru. We only call ourselves Latino here in America, When we travel abroad, we are just plan American’s.
Back on the subject, I refuse to answer the race question. Either we are all just Americans or we are allowed to identify ourselves as we chose.
Peace
