Is it true that there is no such thing as the Hispanic/Latino Race?
Before the 1970′s, the terms never existed. Hispanic/Latinos, were simply refered to as white, black, amerindian (chicano), or mixed mestizo/mullato.
Why is it that today that Hispanic is viewed as a race and singled out as such versus all the other groups? How come there is a “white/non-hispanic” box, but no white-hispanic box to check?

Wrong Just R. If you are white hispanic, you are white, period. Hispanic just means your culture. By your logic, anyone who speaks English and has an English surname, whether white, black, or native american is Anglo because they come from a ANGLO derived country.
Do you not see that the terms Hispanic/Latino was created for the purposes of a voting bloc.
Before the 1970′s people were NOT ignorant. They are ignorant TODAY about “Hispanics”.

That’s true. Hispanic/Latino is not a race. It is an ethnicity. Anyone of any race could be Hispanic or Latino. There is a white/non-hispanic box for the whites who are not ethnically Hispanic.
Um..news flash, if you’re a white hispanic..YOU’RE STILL HISPANIC SO YOU CHECK THE HISPANIC BOX! Besides, before the 1970′s people were so damn ignorant and didn’t know what hispanics were, they thought since they were brown, but not white nor black then they’re “mullato.” Latino’s come from LATIN AMERICA. All other hispanics come from SPANISH SPEAKING PARTS OF THE WORLD!
No. We, in the USA, have deemed to mean non caucasian or black people from Spanish speaking countries like Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Veneszuala BUT techinically I think Hispanic means someone who originates from a spanish speaking country and Latino means you come from Latin America.
A blonde, blue eyed pure German blood from Argentina is Hispanic and Latina…but unless she has indian blood to make her brownish, she is white in America.
