What are the stereotypes of Hispanics/Latinos?
I live in Miami. So it’s Latin central here. I want to know how people outside the enclave view latinos. Postive, negative, etc. about men and women. We all have our perceptions about raceand ethnicity just don’t know how others see Hispanics.

Got something to say?
negative:
just turn on the tv and watch the white media.
positive:
just open the door and get to know real hispanic people.
They are HOT.
They dance salsa? Or is that Spaniards? Lol i’m English so we don’t get many Latinos round my way so please forgive my ignorance.
They wear creased khaki pants with wifebeaters (men and women).
I enjoy the food. I like any kind of spicy food, esp Mexican food.
I think the major stereotypes have already been given:
- Laziness / taking a siesta
- Alcoholism
- Being illegal immigrants / taking American jobs
- “Talk funny” (i.e. – with an accent) or can’t speak English
- Many children
- Eat only Mexican food
- Very religious
- Wearing sombreros
- Work as day laborers
- Drive tricked out cars
If you need examples for class, I would suggest listening to the standup comedy of:
Gabriel Iglesias
George Lopez
Paul Rodriguez
Alex Reymundo
i am not a racist
lets not.
i would have to say outta all the women, latinas tend to be the nicer ones and more open minded than any race of women.
hard working people they don’t whine so much as we do.
Most are negative.
Gangbangers
Illegal immigrants taking American Jobs
Ill mannered
Dangerous
Unable to speak English
Unintelligent
Low class
The stereotypes are horrible. A lot of bad things that are said about Blacks are also said about hispanics. I don’t think any of these are true- in fact I know they aren’t. My besties are Venezuelans and Mexicans. And I’m Black.
There are good stereotypes
Good food
Attractive (some people think so- I do)
Kind
Hard working
There isn’t one answer because there are different stereotypes for each group.
For example, I think of Cuban-Americans as being very pro-capitalist, ambitious, fashion-conscious and musically inclined. I think of Mexicans as being family-oriented, extremely tolerant of miserable working and living conditions, and enjoying horrible music that features accordions. Brazilians are fun-loving, multi-ethnic, good dancers. And Puerto Ricans living in New York have irritating accents that make me want to shove a pair of scissors through my eardrums.
Of course I don’t believe these things about every individual in those groups but it’s just an example of how each Hispanic culture is viewed in a different way.
illegal immigrants. not how i see them but how alot of others do
I’m Cuban and I couldn’t care less about stereotypes or what other people think about me. I live my life without a care about other people’s opinions.
