Latino, Hispanic, and Chicano all refer to some one from one of the following areas; Mexico, Central (or Latin) America, South America, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. Yes these areas all have different things going for them but there are also similarites. It is like lumping all the Asian countries as “The East” and Europe, North and South America and Australia as “The West”

Latino & Hispanic – descended from Spanish speaking countries. Chicano is a North American expression that is more political in tone. Think “Chicano power!” “Viva la raza!”. The use of Chicano may be on the wane due to its similarity to a Spanish vulgarism.

Got something to say?
